Drs. Andries De Smet

Andries De Smet is a Junior Research Fellow of the Fund for Scientific Research Flanders at the Department of Philosophy and Moral Sciences of Ghent University. He obtained an MA in Philosophy at Ghent University in 2006, an MSc in Communication Science at Ghent University in 2008, and an MA in Philosophy and Ethics at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2011.

Research interests

He is a member of the Center for Ethics & Value Inquiry (CEVI) at Ghent University. His current research project focusses on cosmopolitanism and questions of responsibility regarding global justice. The aim of his PhD dissertation is to assess the moral validity of feasibility objections with regard to cosmopolitan justice. In this context, special attention is paid to the responsibilities of supranational institutional schemes like the European Union in promoting global justice.
